I sense some similarity between Ron Paul and George. Both are outspoken critics of the war when their colleagues (or ex-colleagues) remain gun-ho.
Both seemed to be loved on the internet / grass-roots, but short-changed by the establishment/mass media.

There's no doubting he's a good speaker and clearly understands the ideas he's talking about, coming across as a genuine man, but he's still very much a conservative. His policies will see those at the top and the bottom receive less, which considering the vast amount of people living in poverty will only exacerbate that problem further.
I believe his policies will make the states more of a fortress in the long run, resulting in less of the freedom from government intervention that he says is his policy.

Coming from inside the "Republican" side clearly carries a stigma. His policy to abolish taxation goes against the socialist policies which I support in the UK to raise taxation for the higher earners.
I can't help feeling that in the US, the tax system is there to take from the poor, and give to the rich (such as the Military Industrial complex), with the richest paying the least taxes in % terms. Thus the cancellation of the tax system would actually keep the wealth with the poorest people.
Of-course it would be better to cancel the tax system for the poorest, and keep it for the higher earners.

Strange ... but I just saw another thread on CT which doesn't agree with the above :popinjay wrote:He'll turn the United States into a sweatshop. He'll cut subsidies to public services and privitise everything. He's the most free-market worshipping capitalist bastard in the whole Presidential race.
"the political compass"

There is of-course also the balance you take between Authoritarian [fascist] and Libertarian
Note that if the choice was "free market" or fascist slavery, I would go for free market (as the least of 2 evils)
p.s. I don't think it is possible in the US to FURTHER "cut subsidies to public services and privitise everything" .. that's all already done. If you mean the "military" as a public service, then CUT AWAY ....
about "He'll turn the United States into a sweatshop" -- you mean better than the "boiler room" stock-brokers ? Or jobs being "outsourced" ? Or giving "sweatshop" jobs to the unemployed rather than using unemployment as the push for them to join the military ? At least then the US would produce something the world wanted (other than weapons of death).
But that isn't the choice...Mandy wrote:Note that if the choice was "free market" or fascist slavery, I would go for free market (as the least of 2 evils)
Wrong. Over 40% of healthcare in the US is subsidised by the government (for a start).Mandy wrote:p.s. I don't think it is possible in the US to FURTHER "cut subsidies to public services and privitise everything" .. that's all already done.
He'll eliminate minimum wage and scrap most worker's rights. Corporate responsibility will go out of the window.Mandy wrote:about "He'll turn the United States into a sweatshop" -- you mean better than the "boiler room" stock-brokers ? You're right. Giuliani willnekokate wrote:But we needn't worry - because he won't win.popinjay wrote:He'll turn the United States into a sweatshop. George didn't explicitly give his view on Ron Paul, but agreed with the texter that someone can support a politician's views even if that politician has no chance of winning.popinjay wrote:I didn't listen. What did George say?
The analogy was that people support George because his views are right, even if under the current system he won't be elected PM.
I just saw this video and I must admit I was impressed (the sound goes out of sync after a few minutes though)
