Corporate scum V Covent Garden

Post by faceless »

Some of you might know me from gigs, most not prolly. I'm Evie Anderson (AKA 'Tits') and I need your help. As well as doing a spot of comedy I am a professional busker, earning my living singing opera and playing the cello in Covent Garden. I love my job! But I might not have it for much longer as the owners of covent garden are a multi-national corporation who want to rid the place of its unique charm and turn it into a shopping mall. Their move to cut performances by 50% will also effect the street performers. Comedy and street performance have had a long association and covent garden in particular has a glowing alumni. eg Eddie Izzard, Mark Heap.
Please take 2 seconds to follow the below link and sign our petition. And if you've still got any energy, please forward this link to all the people you know who would also like to keep music and street performance alive. Thank you very much in advance.

If you've never been, it really is a treat. Some of the performers are just brilliant.

so :nyer: to the corporations!

that'll be a real shame, the street performers are really the only reason to go to covent garden ... although there are some nice shops around there. theres some guy whos always there who looks like a statue - he's always stood completely still, i've seen all sorts of stuff down there over the years

this is the problem with corporations owning streets and stuff, they could stop you handing out leaflets because its private property - it should be our property! next thing you won't be able to smoke on the streets!

Dear God! I'm with you 100% Face! Covent Garden is an amazing spot and I love going there when I am in London.
We went just last year and took my niece and it was her favorite day in London because of it. She had never seen anything like it before.
The street performers are what make that place amazing and keep me, tourists and regulars coming back. The world doesn't need another shopping mall.

Can't believe they're doing this. I was so looking forward to seeing all this when I come to London in a couple of years... and I think you don't want to piss off millions of tourists!
