England team salutes Hitler

This picture has just been released from the National German Archive and shows the England football team saluting Hitler in Berlin in 1938... the crap that associated this story (in the Daily Mail) suggests that the players were forced to give the salute, by the FA, but I tend not to give grown men the benefit of the doubt...

Well, remember, in 1938, members of the royal family were visiting Hitler. He wasn't quite to the zenith of the hatred that he would later achieve.

no, but he was still very much hated by many in Britain - including the thousands who joined the International Brigade to help fight his forces in the Spanish Civil War two years earlier. These players should have known that so they must have been either idiots or bastards.
