Wow that must be quite shocking to find out!! Will you ever be normal again after that - knowing you married your sister!!!

Horrible story .

Would have been better if they were never told.

What are the chances ? I know they say separated identical twins grow up with common characteristics .. maybe opposites don't attract

I'm wondering if they are still actually together - legally they couldn't be, but if I'd got to know someone on that level then I'm not sure I'd feel that I'd change things just because it looked wrong.

From a genetics point of view, it takes 6 generations of inbreeding before 'defects' are noticed, so the rest is just social dogma really.

They aren't identical twins - even so I couldn't stand to be with someone like my sister - she does my nut in most of the time (like all the time

)!!

I am not sure how I would react in that situation. But regardless, I wouldn't have kids because there is a chance it can happen earlier than 6 generations. It's not written in stone that problems won't come out earlier.

I could see them staying together but I could also see them never wanting to see each other again. This isn't something that happens often, so we can't imagine or even guess what the reaction is supposed to be or going to be.

I can only hope they get through this and if they need any help they get it.

That is bizarre, for sure. I'm wondering how they found out. It's not like it's a common thing to say to your husband "We're not doing anything this weekend, let's have genetic tests done!"

What are you talking about? It's one of the first things I did after we got married and had nothing better to do.

Knowing you married your sister would be the least of my problems. But knowing that you had some of the ol' hankey pankey with your sister, that's a whole different story!

Sometimes this is true, but not necessarily. Any children would have a higher likelihood of having "defects" per se...... it really relies more on a child getting two copies of a defective gene--- so in theory, it might never happen, or it could happen on a first generation.

Either way, this is a sad story for the pair.
