THE IT Crowd’s Chris O'Dowd says his fans all have one thing in common - they're drunk. The star of the Channel 4 sitcom said: "My fan base is mostly drunk. I was in some shop recently and a guy was circling. He came over and said, 'You're that fella from TV. You're on that comedy programme?' I said yes, and he replied, 'You're the little one from Little Britain!'" The lanky actor continued: "I'm not on the radio! How could I be the little fat guy from Little Britain? I mean, you’re looking at me. It was extraordinary."
As a seasoned dramatic actor in serious shows like Ireland’s The Clinic and The Year London Blew Up: 1974, Chris was hoping that his IT Crowd character Roy would have a little more depth this year. "I wanted him to have some kind of heart condition," he explained. "And to have a very sick Granny. I feel like I didn’t shed enough tears last year."
Unfortunately, show creator Graham Linehan didn’t listen to the actor’s pleas. Chris joked: "I wanted to give (Roy) Aids. I wanted to shave my head and go to Philadelphia, but again my ideas were not considered - there hasn’t been a good Aids comedy."
Later this year Chris will star in the movie Hippie Hippie Shake, alongside Sienna Miller. He said: "I had to go for a wig fitting about three weeks ago and it was going to be the first time I met her. I obviously wanted to make a good impression. When they’re fitting you for a wig, they cover your head in cling film and she walked in when they had just done it. So my first line to her was: 'I don’t generally look like a condom.' I hope she can see past that."
The new series of IT Crowd starts on Friday 24 August on Channel 4.

I wasn't a huge fan of the first series, though there were some really good bits in it, but I'll be watching this for sure...
