June 2007 marks the 40-year anniversary of the Six Day War, in which the Israeli army took military control of the Gaza Strip and West Bank, including East Jerusalem.

On Saturday 9 June 2007 we want thousands of people to join us for the primary international event of the year in support of the Palestinian people.

Say Enough to the Occupation this Saturday!

Speakers include:
Mustafa Barghouti (Palestinian Minister of Information)
Anglican Bishop Riah Abu El Assal
Professor Manuel Hassassian (Palestinian General Delegate to the UK)
Natan’l Silverman (Combatants for Peace)
Lord Andrew Phillips
Bruce Kent
Richard Burden MP
Jeremy Corbyn MP
Emily Thornberry MP
George Galloway MP
Caroline Lucas MEP
Dr Daud Abdullah (Muslim Council of Britain)
Ismael Patel (Friends of Al Aqsa)
Dr Azzam Tamimi
Mairead Corrigan Maguire (Nobel Peace Laureate)
Keith Sonnet (UNISON)

And a video message from Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh

To take part in this historic event, meet at 1.30pm on Saturday 9 June, Lincoln's Inn Fields for the march to Trafalgar Square(click here for map).

The nearest tube is Holborn (Picadilly and Central lines), and Temple (Central and District lines) is just a few minutes walk further away.

Several coaches have been hired by local groups from around the country to bring people to London for the demonstration. See here for details.

that's a great lineup - wish I could be there.

I wonder though, does Bruce Kent not get called Monsignor anymore? He might have retired from the church, but he's always a 'Sir' in my book. And I don't say that much...

i'll see what i can do ash, but i like taking photos so don't usually have much space left ( i figure if i take enough photos one day i'll get a wicked shot ), although you can get extra memory things for it which would be handy.

usually though with youtube you can get most of the speakers at these kinda events :)

if you did go ash you could just catch the talks at trafalgar square :)

heres some pics and video from today - good turn out, great atmosphere, top speeches and lovely weather :) plus i got a wicked chavez teeshirt on the cheap 8)

the organisers reckon 20,000 were there, certainly took a while for everyone to arrive in trafalgar square

on the downside, the toe next to me little toe really hurts :(

did the media cover it at all today?

they was on about another demo in november, they said the date about a hundred times so everyone would remember. i forgot. :? but some time in november

Enjoyed seeing those pics. Thanks. (And the sharpness/quality looked great.)

We had our own rally in Washington. Hope it went well.

totally - my toe should be on the front page of every newspaper and leading every news bulletin, but apparently the media thinks paris hilton is more important than my poor toe :wink2:

its crazy isn't it - i mean i didn't think it would get much coverage, criticism of israel usually doesn't - but this is quite shocking.

i can only find two articles, check the difference in coverage ...

from the jerusalem post in israel
"London anti-Israel protest fails to draw big crowd"
https://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite? ... 2FShowFull

and the only other article i could find

from the latin america news agency
"Londoners Shuns Israel anti-Palestine Drive"
https://www.plenglish.com/article.asp?ID ... anguage=EN

and from outside the mainstream, luckily some reporting - although look at some of the comments!

And the really sad irony is that your toe is probably a lot more interesting than the whole of Paris Hilton's life.

another article & some pics, this bit made me laugh  ( there was some naked bike race of some sort going on yesterday as well )
I was amused to find myself next to a couple of American tourists, who were stunned to find themselves in a London which seemed to consist entirely of nudes on bicycles and thousands of pro-Palestinian protesters. What is going on, they wailed to each other. Why are they doing this?
 i love london :)
