Fatal accident near my house

Post by Twirley »

This happened right near my house just a couple of hours ago! There's been mayhem outside my house with police blocking off the road, news vans and even the news helicopter flying over.

WBTV Charlotte News Article

It's sad really as the road is known to be unsafe as there are no turning lanes into neighbourhoods and lots of hills with bad sight lines. This summer, the city start work on smoothing out the hills, put in turning lanes, and (Face, you'll like this!) put in bicycle lanes.

that's good they're trying to sort things - just a shame it didn't get done in time

I know. Of course, it means 2 years of roadworks for us but I'd rather that and the road be safer. Apparently, there was a car, an SUV, and a dump truck involved. The car hit the truck and it's the driver of the car who is dead. All others are okay.

It makes you think, though. Yesterday at around the same time, I was driving on that exact stretch of road. I always take it slow, especially near the bad sight lines, but the number of times I've seen drivers slam their brakes on because they are going too fast and someone has stopped to make a turn is more than I would care to count.

Always scary indeed. Hopefully once they get it sorted it will make the drive safer.
