The biology prize was awarded to Darryl Gwynne and David Rentz for studying why a certain type of beetle likes to try to mate with a certain kind of bumpy Australian beer bottle. The 2011 Ig Nobel Award winners were declared Thurs in a ceremony presented at Harvard University's Sanders Theatre. Champions of the yearly prize for unlikely scientific research went to such improbable studies as why a particular beetle mates with a specific type of beer bottle and why discus throwers get dizzy from spinning around.
