At 68 gigawatts, the entire generation capacity of the 48 countries of sub-Saharan Africa is no more than that of Spain; and without South Africa, the total falls to 28GW, equivalent to the installed capacity of Argentina.

Those 48 countries had about 800 million people in 2007. Argentina has about 40 million.
