Anyone knows why both N. Chomsky and N. Finkelstein don't like the word 'narrative'? I've heard them saying "I don't like the word narrative'" - in different interview/talks. Just curious.

Going from memory, I believe it hinges on the way the "alternate narratives" are presented in the media, as if each side has equally valid version of what happened. In reality, there is one series of events, so by repeatedly referring to "alternative narratives," the writer is in fact giving false balance where none is deserved.
Fact is fact; it's not up for philosophical debate on relativistic terms.
