There is the basic Windows Movie maker as part of your XP. It's good enough to start with if you've not done it before.
If you want something more advanced I can upload something to the private section...

I use
VirtualDub. It's freeware and lets you encode your movies in xvid if you have the
K-lite Full codec pack installed. (links provided)
