This feature length documentary features a group of people who were filming in Gaza just as the despicable attack by Israel started on December 28th 2008.

Has everyone watched it yet? I just finished and feel numb.

In this doc, we clearly see:
  • ambulance workers (clearly marked in the light of day) shot trying to retrieve the body of a dead man
  • remnants of white phosphorous (which re-ignites on contact, even when in contact with water)
  • numerous children killed and injured
  • one of several killed ambulance medics
  • the burning UN warehouse (witnessed and commented on by John Ging)
The senseless crimes committed by Israel in Gaza must not be allowed to be swept under the carpet.

I also managed to watch it today, and I'm not ashamed to admit that tears were rolling down during certain parts; I feel that I'm living in a surreal world where such inhumanity is allowed by the International Community to be committed against innocent civilians. Our wretched & shameless Government is now trying change the law so that the War Criminals responsible, and all future War Criminals, cannot be held to account; this is a direct incentive for this mass massacre to be repeated , nevermind the daily atrocities that Israel inflicts upon the Palestinians with impunity.

A short while back I ran across this related pair of articles.

Qaradawi: Abbas must be stoned if proven guilty (Jan 9, 2010)

PA demands apology from Egyptian cleric (Jan 11, 2010)

The 2nd article ends:
The [PA's official news] agency [Wafa] said that the scholar was being ungrateful to Abbas, who was the one who found him a job in Qatar when the PA president was a senior government official in the emirate.
Rather than denying the charge that he was complicit in Operation Cast Lead, the official line is that Qaradawi's debt to Abbas ought to keep him from challenging the "PA president" on this serious issue.

While I'm not in favour of stoning, if the accusation (which I've not seen printed in any Western media) is true, Abbas also ought to be brought to account for his role.

One of the female volunteers that featured quite a lot in this doc, is interviewed here;

(I'm probably missing the obvious, but can anybody tell me why it's called "Shoot the Elephant" ?)

Thanks Luke, that's probably it; I remember reading his Shooting the Elephant essay as a teenager, and obviously need to get acquainted with it again.

From the official website (https://www.toshootanelephant.com/node/141):

Sinopsis

"...afterwards, of course, there were endless discussions about the shooting of the elephant. The owner was furious, but he was only an Indian and could do nothing. Besides, legally I had done the right thing, for a mad elephant has to be killed, like a mad dog, if it's owner fails to control it".

George Orwell defined a way of witnessing Asia that still remains valid. "To shoot an elephant" is an eye witness account from The Gaza Strip. December 27th, 2008, Operation Cast Lead. 21 days shooting elephants. Urgent, insomniac, dirty, shuddering images from the only foreigners who decided and managed to stay embedded inside Gaza strip ambulances, with Palestinian civilians.

I need the space this file's using, so if anyone could copy it into their humyo space and post the link so that others can get it in future that would be good.
