A professional web-designer isn't worth their salt if they don't make things work on as many browsers as possible... but then, that site is all HTML, so it's no surprise really.

Actually, it is. If you write a browser that isn't compatible with the HTML standard, then bundle it on millions of PC's for free, it's natural that people will test with the browser already on the PC and not with any more standards-compliant browsers. So if web pages only test on ie, they're only bolstering M$'s dominant market position.
