My friend and peace activist/songwriter, Paula Kirman, performing at the Walk4Justice event in Edmonton, Canada on 3rd of July this year. George has mentioned her a few times on his radio show (admittedly because I emailed him about her, not off his own bat) and he says he likes her work.
I think the acoustics of the church sound really great with her voice in this song so I thought I'd post the performance for anyone who likes this sort of grass-roots folk music.
I only ask of God
That He won't let me be indifferent to the suffering
That the very dried up death doesn't find me
Empty and without having given my everything
I only ask of God
He won't let me be indifferent to injustice
That they do not slap my other cheek
After a claw has scratched my whole body
I only ask of God
He won't let me be indifferent to the wars
War is a big monster that treads hard
On the poor innocence of people
War is a big monster that treads hard
On the poor innocence of people
I only ask of God
That He not let me be indifferent to deception
If a traitor knows something more than the rest of us
Then let us not let him be easily forgotten
I only ask of God
That He not let me be indifferent to the future
Hopeless is the one who must depart
To go and live in a different culture
I only ask of God
He won't let me be indifferent to the wars
War is a big monster that treads hard
On the poor innocence of people
