The Ripps

Post by RaulRipp »

Evening amigos!

I hope you don't mind a bit of shameless self promotion, but I'd like to share a couple of songs with you from my band's forthcoming album. It's due to be released in June and its titled 'Question Everything' I'd really appreciate any feedback or comments you have.

Cheers.

Darling, I’ve never felt this far from home.
Darling, I don’t know what we’re fighting for.
If you want to be free. Are we keeping the peace?
I don’t wanna die young.
In the midst of the bloodshed it’s you that’s pulling me through.
With a gun in my hand, amongst the bullets and bombs.
I dream I’m coming back to you.

A thousand miles away from home.
A soldier dies without a cause and leaves a son without a dad.
A widow weeps beneath the flag.
We see it on the news again.
The casualties and suffering, and still we keep on sending them.
The price of war without an end.

Darling, I’m gonna do my country proud.
Darling, a small town boy who’s turned out well.
But I got a lot more. Than I signed up for.
I don’t wanna die young.
In a crippled country torn by a civil war.
I’ve seen terrible things and now there’s blood on my hands.
I’m not the man I used to be.

A thousand miles away from home.
A soldier dies without a cause and leaves a son without a dad.
A widow weeps beneath the flag.
We see it on the news again.
The casualties and suffering, and still we keep on sending them.
The price of war without an end.

I don’t wanna wait to find out. Staying awake through the night.
Wondering if you’re alone. Are you lost and lonely.
I don’t wanna wait to find out….

No more, no more, no more, no more…

The People Have Spoken

The people have spoken.
They won’t be fooled again.
They don’t believe the lies.
And don’t believe the hype.
So join us in the fight.
Or join the other side.
If you don’t see the light.
Then we must pay the price.

Surrender all your rights.
The evil doers multiply.
Stick em up and know your place.
Surrender all your rights.
The evil doers multiply.
Stick em up and know your place.

They conquer and divide,
They conquer and divide,
They conquer and divide,
The people must unite, or suffer the consequences.

The people have spoken.

It’s the turning of the tide.
Justice will be done.
And we will testify.
You tried to shake us down.
You rob us if you can.
But we won’t stand for that.
The people have spoken.

Glad you like them face. Luckily we got Roger Lomas to produce, he's done all the old ska and reggae stuff and absolute legend in my book!

I play the bass and share the lyric writing duties!

Nice one, I thought the bass was spot on (though it all was really). The lyrics sound worth paying more attention to as well - can you post them up?

I'm sure Aja would be well into it too - she's done some great reggae radio shows over the years.

Lyrics are up, I'm glad you noticed there was something to them. There's nothing too complicated or intellectual about them, the message is as clear as we can make it.

WAR=BAD
UNITY=GOOD

Simple enough eh?!

I am trying to think how to word this ........I have been a huge lover of ska and rock steady and reggae since i was 6 years old ....... (that was many many years ago) when i first listened to this last night i was like blah moderate wanna be reggae sounding stuff.... ( i was in a depressed mode though) so tonite i thought i would give another listen ...... to me u sound like a likkle cross between ub40 and aswad in a 2000 style with the lyrics ..and the lyrics are good ...... I quite like ....the people have spoken .....

after all thats what Reggae is about .....spreading the message ...... :)

Good luck ........

I really appreciate your honesty Aja, it's great to get an opinion from somebody who's such a big fan of reggae/ska/rock steady. We're huge fans ourselves and these songs are a homage to our heroes. UB40 and Aswad are pretty cool, (I love UB40's Signing Off in particular) but we are following in the footsteps of Two-tone and the late 70's punk bands. The Clash are a particular fave!

We're from Coventry, so it's only natural that our sound has taken on certain aspects of Two-tone, in particular the message of unity and equality, but we're not strictly one thing, more an amalgamation of various genres.

I'll post some more tracks once they're completed.

Cheers again Aja!
