This seems a somewhat harsh way to treat a newcomer.

I never figured you for a fan of Freedom Fries, Marcella.

I read it to be an insult to France, suggesting "France is so low, it's not possible to demote it."

uh ... Not sure what all the confusion is about .. it was not directed at the new comer ... it was directed at the comment about France and not even directed at France proper ...I was simply comparing it's "demotion" to Pluto's "demotion" last year from planet to dwarf planet. The comment about France being demoted made me think of Pluto ... ok ... is that clarified?

Pluto is to dwarf planet as France is to .... anyone?

Following my apparently mental analogy it would be:
Pluto is to dwarf planet as France is to dwarf country. or maybe even principality like Monaco ... which would then make Monaco a principality of a principality ... which would make it a dwarf principality ....

but what does that make Vatican City?

Ok, you confused me. :D

If you didn't mean any insult, that's good enough for me... I guess I read too much into it because you were responding to Cherokee's post and she's from France.

My apologies...
