Ugh, I really hate Family Guy. It's pure comedy-by-numbers for people who find The Simpsons a little bit too high-brow.

No offence, everyone! LOL!

no offence? you just called us all stupid bastards! haha

For me it's perfect foil to the rapier of reality - so stick that in your pipe!

This ongoing battle has lasted a few series and was recently explained... it's DEEP, man, DEEP!

That clip is exactly what I'm talking about. It's all about clumsily contrived flashbacks, and has absolutely no original wit or commitment to a storyline. The humour isn't situational, and doesn't derive from the linear narrative - it's like someone writes a really mundane script and they hammer as many blindly pre-prepared jokes in as they can, either through some random flashback or someone or something implanted in the present timeline, but irrelevent to it.

No joke would bear such close examination.

I'm not a fan of Family Guy, but I put off seeing Dumb & Dumber for ages because I thought I would hate it -- I didn't care for Jim Carey's comedy and thought that the movie would merely turn out to be a 2 hr demonstration. But I was completely wrong. I loved the film and found almost every scene to be funny.

It may be low-brow, but it makes me laugh, and that's all you can ask of a comedy.

Family Guy is a chain of gags, most of which are quite funny, or very funny.

Ever since that episode of South Park where they point out that the jokes in Family Guy don't derive from the plot, people have been stating that as if it's a criticism in itself.

Well, it is not.

I expect it's harder to write something such as South Park, where the writers have to keep everything relating back to a central narrative, but that doesn't invalidate all types of cartoon comedy which stray from that model.

Well, I just watched this Star Wars episode. It was well done as a parody, but wasn't as funny as most, though I laughed pretty hard at quite a few bits - the couch scene in particular...

you can download a torrent for the show HERE

I laughed pretty hard at some scenes myself. It wasn't as funny as I was hoping, but I did enjoy it a lot.
