I am sure there is more to the story. It seems strange that the mom would set up a sting. I wonder what made her do that?

I've gotten bits and pieces from other places and it seems that he was talking to one of his friends about it who told his mom who tipped her off.

I think there is more to it as well. I do hope that if this kid was having all these issues the parents were looking into help for him because it sounds like he needs it.

The fact they mention taking his Playstation away implies that that had something to do with him flipping. Which ties in with the whole idea of whether games affect behaviour.

He was also kicked out of his home. So I think that needs to be taken into account too. I think the papers put in the Playstation part because there is such controversy around video games and teen behavior.

When I read about the playstation I thought "hmmmm ... there's the problem." and not because of the violence in games but of what it tells me about the parents and the family dynamic. I bet he had one of those hand held deals too. Kids nowadays are so plugged in and disassociated from society ... it is no wonder they can't function as "normal" human beings! They never learned how!

Don't know if I went off on here about this but here goes ... if you have heard this story go get a cup of tea or something ...

So I was driving the kids to school a few weeks ago and the van infront of us had a drop down screen and the kid was playing a video game on it ... my daughter said "Wow how cool" and I said "No how sad - he can't even unplug for the 15 minute drive to school to interact with his parent."

I so agree with you about those in the car Marcella. I can see it if you're having a long trip, more than two hours in the car. But the time it takes to get from home to school or the store? It doesn't make sense to me one bit. You can talk to your kids then, it's such a good time. Especially since they are a captive audience at that point.

I think there is more to put in to play here though with this family. This was a 16 year old and they were taking away his tv and playstation for violent and destructive behavior? That's what you do to a kid when they come home late or bring home a bad grade. Then you kick him out of the house because they probably said "We just don't know what to do with you!" I doubt this family looked into alternatives or counseling or anything for him. There was a break down here.
