Ponderland

Post by nekokate »

I can't wait! "Ol' Russ", AKA "Russypoos", AKA Russell Brand has a new nightly show starting next Monday called Ponderland.

The adverts for it are pretty vague, but as long as the basic premise includes him talking complete rubbish off the top of his bonce in a sustained manner then it's going to hit my happy-spot!

If I had the technology, I'd cap it and MediaFire it, but since I don't I'll just probably try and get it off various torrent sites and perhaps post the links here.

Hoorah!! The Revolution will be televised!!!

What channel is it on? I'd be up for doing it for a few episodes at least. The problem I've found with his live shows is that if the production's not up to scratch it leaves him pretty bland - compare Big Mouth to that MTV show he did for example.

It's Channel 4, Face.

It would be cool if you could cap it, although I'm sure it will be on various torrent sites regardless - pretty much everything is!

Hold up, I thought that TV was bollox?!

pwned! etc etc haha

Thing is though, there's a lot of good stuff that does go unreleased on many sites simply because it's deemed 'uncool', so you never know.

Good point. However russellbrandfansite.com has a forum full of people who are to him what we are to Galloway, so I'm crossing my fingers it they will sort something out.

Brand's show was pretty good, but the Karl Pilkington show was brilliant - deserves a new thread in fact.

I'm compressing the Brand show now, but it's arsing about so I'll have it up tomorrow.

Russell Brand's Ponderland
Channel 4, 10.35pm

What a surprise that it took Russell Brand a mere four minutes or so to mention his winkle on his new show, Ponderland. This time he called it a willy - and not only mentioned his but his dad's, too. It was a brief mention, and I thought he'd got over his obsession with his nether regions, but no. After the adverts, it got a whole lot worse and involved his father and some colour charts. It provided something of an insight, if nothing else, into the reasons for his obsession - memories of his childhood, you see, and how brown he thought his dad's was.

When he wasn't talking about his winkle, Ponderland was reasonably funny at times. You either love or hate Russell Brand - or so they tell me. Personally, I fall somewhere in between. In stand-up at the Edinburgh Festival fringe three years ago, his show was hilarious. On Big Brother's Big Mouth his rambling style was criticised by some - but was sorely missed when he chose not to do the show this summer.

His chat show never quite hit the mark, though, so this is Channel Four's latest attempt to give their golden boy a good gig. A mish mash of stand-up, interspersed with video clips to aid his gags, it did contain some moments that made me laugh out loud. The old 1970s Public Information films - the kind of thing that is viewed so regularly on YouTube - were undeniably great, particularly the unforgettable image of the grim reaper hanging about by the side of a pond. Keeping kids in line, 1970s-style: you couldn't make it up.

Still, maybe if Brand did make more of it up, and didn't fill so much of the show with clips of varying quality, the show would be a lot better. His recollection of dogs in the playground causing mayhem at school was particularly enjoyable, as was his admission about Coco Pops. Tonight he'll be pondering science. The mind boggles as to how he'll bring the contents of his trousers into that.
