no music this weekend

Post by faceless »

So, the talkSPORT shows haven't had any musical interludes this weekend and I must admit that after railing against the music before, I think it has made quite a good part of the show recently. Maybe there's just not enough stuff that Galloway is a fan of?

I'm not a fan of ~75% of the stuff he plays. The Bowie weekend was ok, and there might be a song here or there that I like, but most of it isn't my taste. eg. Who says Springsteen can sing?

2 x 2 x 2 .. reminds me of the joke : How do you get 3 economic opinions ? [Answer : put 2 economists in a room together]

Does anybody know why there is no music this weekend ?

I think that on the whole, GG has good musical taste, and I like the fact that he introduces great music to people who were previously unaware of. Also he balances it quite well, as in playing just enough as not to distract from the debates.

i don't mind when its music i like, but really i don't think the show needs it - maybe the odd one now and then if its relevant to the subject, but you got a million and one radio stations playing music if you wanna listen to music

George just said he was under instructions to cut back on the music. I have a feeling this might be to try and avoid breaking the TS radio broadcasting mandate of being a talk sport radio, and not to compete with the music radio stations.

Well as I was saying, GG introduces music & artists previously unknown (to me anyway). The Israel Kamakawiwo'ole cover of Somewhere Over the Rainbow is truely wonderful, and looking him up reveals he was a morbidly obese Hawaian who died of his condition in 1997 at the age of 38.

Interesting about GG being told to cut back on the music by the management. He may have overdone it a bit when he kept playing & dedicating a whole record to his "special lady" at the start of every recent show.

Regarding "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", it is now indelibly tied in my mind to the "horrific" Lebanese slide shows :

"haha...yup, that was starting to get annoying!"

Even more, it was getting embarrassing, a grown man sounding like a love-struck teenager ! But maybe she is worth it !

yeah embarrassing is a better way to describe it, whats also embarrassing and slightly cringe worthy is the mentions of 'lucy feeding me hob nobs' with lucy being his daughter the images that conjures up is just wrong!
