And they're off! The annual 12 Hour Lawn Mower Endurance Race kicks off at Brinsbury College, near Pulborough, Sussex. From old-school cylinder mowers to the latest in lawn tractors, the race is open to anyone with a passion for cutting grass.
The British Lawn Mower Racing Association (BLMRA) warns on its website: "If you think it's going to be low-key with a few old mowers trickling round a field, think again! "The 50 or so teams, with three drivers, set up pit garages, with generators, lighting, spare parts, welding kit, pit crew, catering and even gravity refuellers."
