Home Brew beer/cider/wine

Has anyone tried making their own beers etc at home? I'm thinking about it as I'm sure it must be a cheaper way to get a buzz on!

I've not, but a cousin in law makes his own and use to be a brew master....great stuff, but a real hassle to start with, but once you've got the gear, it gets easier, just have to keep the stuff clean, but you can probably get the stuff cheap second hand from a local brew type club where people always upgrade to better stuff, so that's probably worth a look
