I'll not miss the old racist cunt at all. There's no doubt he could make a good joke and hold a room, but for me that amounts to nothing when you're slagging off 'coons, pakis, niggers' etc.

I built a 'tribute' website to him a few years back - I might see if I can upload it again just now...

He'll likely be the last of his kind - at least on mainstream TV anyway. His act was certainly racist, but it had no prejudices in terms of leaving any one minority (or majority) out - everyone was a target, and in a wierd kind of way that made it acceptable.

I must have missed the memo about how racism is ok as long as you abuse everyone.

That's not really what I meant - but I take your point

As someone who's ethnic group was on the recieving end of some of his jokes, in a strange way I didn't find it offensive. Many ethnic minorities will tell you that they tell jokes about their own group to each other and within their own circles, though they may not always like others doing the same. Related to this you only have to think of how the "N Word" has become acceptable within the black communities but not outside - somehow Bernard Manning managed to cross the divide and do it too, at least as far as I am concerned - I suppose it's all down to peoples ability to laugh at themselves.

I have no evidence to say this but I suspect you might find that more people outside of the ethnic groups find it offensive than the groups themselves, but that's just my own experience.

his jokes were funny at the time, i dont consider myself in the least PC but times change and stuff like stupid racist and sexist jokes that were hilarious in the 70s just arn't funny now, comedy has to stand test test of time to be great comedy

I never laughed at his jokes in the 70s. It wasn't being 'PC' that stopped me - it was realising that cunts like him were nothing more than bullies... From what I've been reading Asian people would avoid being near his club emptying at night because they would be guaranteed to be beaten up. What a legacy.

That old cunt helped to continue the hatred and for that he should burn in whatever kind of hell available to someone of his sort.

I just watched Frank Carson on Richard & Judy talking about how great Manning was. What a load of shit, the stuff he was coming out with.

He was like "Wot you gotter remember, is that in t'70s and t'80s, immigration woz ere, and it weren't popular, so don't say it woz. Bernard were just respondin' to that. You can't tell't politicians 'owt, they'll do what they want wi' this country"

Fucking racist wanker scum trying to stand up for a dead twat.
