The downside of being ginger!!!

Post by Lostinthestates »

A Newcastle family claim they have been forced from two homes by thugs who have targeted them over their ginger hair.

Kevin and Barbara Chapman say they and their four children, aged between 10 and 13, have endured years of taunts, smashed windows and violence.

They said they moved from Walker to Newbiggin Hall to try to escape the bullying, and then again to Kenton Bar.

Son Kevin, 11, said he was recently punched in a street attack. Newcastle Council is "discussing the situation".

Mr Chapman, 49, said his 10-year-old daughter Ryelle and sons Daniel, 10, and Jordan, 13, have also been badly affected.

He said each time the family received abuse they moved home.

The family also say they have endured their homes being daubed in graffiti.

Mr Chapman said: "The abuse we get is unbelievable. It started more than three years ago, when the kids started getting bullied by lads over the colour of their hair.

"They've been punched and kicked and thrown over a hedge. Every time they go out these gangs get to them."

He added that the family now wanted to move again.

Community police officer Sergeant Colin Murray, of Northumbria Police, said there had been a number of incidents all of which had been fully investigated.

Commenting on the matter, a Newcastle City Council spokesman said: "We are currently discussing their situation."

That really is shocking to me. I can barely understand when people are against someone because of the color of their skin, but the color of your hair? That's insane.

And I married a ginger. I love his hair!

It always amazes me how Brits react to redheads. It's like they are untouchables or something. Prince Harry really needs to do something to combat this ... that could be his "crusade" in life - Equal Rights for Gingers!

I know natural redheads are pretty rare and as a child I think there were very few redheads around so we were always fascinated by them and some kids would tease them but I don't remember any of them being beat up. We have neighbors who call themselves "The Redheads" and totally embrace it.

I get a ginger beard even though my hair is very dark. It's a strange sight if I grow it...

Red heads have been a bit iffy to the most of UK dwellers since early times.

It's a combo of the Irish & the Scotish (Celtics) where red hair & fair skin was almost a badge of honor but to those being 'invaded' or doing the invading it was a "Target".

Pretty much the same for the scandanavians.

Meanwhile, I recall some crap at school when I was about 9 years old where we were told that people with red hair were crap & people with brown eyes were almost as bad.
Those favored were blue eyed & blonde haired (sounds like my teacher was a nazi huh).

Not sure what it was meant to prove but it stuck with me for years...

That sounds pretty bad! I can't believe you would tell kids at school crap like that!!! I guess I would have got along quite well though at your school being blond and blue eyed :D

Strange indeed. I always thought red hair was sexy. How someone can use it as an excuse for hate is truly baffling.

I think there is a difference between red hair and ginger ... ginger is more orange than red
