"God Is Not Great"
You'll have to give us a rundown when you've finished. Is Hitchens drunk when he's reading it?nekokate wrote:Just to let you all know, I'm currently listening to the audiobook of "God Is Not Great", read by Hitchens himself. It's over 8 hours of blabbering, though, so I doubt I'll be finished anytime soon.
I can't be doing with audiobooks myself, but if anyone knows where to get a pdf copy pm me please
It is sad where his politics have gone recently but i do still hold quite an admiration for him for a number of reasons. He used to be one the sharpest and bravest of left-wing journalists and is also possessed with a certain style and charisma. but even with his current shift to the neo-conservative ranks it is deeply unfair to believe that he is either a racist or a fascist

True. I love the old story of when he debated Charlton "Cold, Dead Brain" Heston on US foreign policy, and challenged Heston to name any of the countries that bordered Iraq. Apparently Heston replied "Err.... The Soviet Union... Bahrain..."til661 wrote:It is sad where his politics have gone recently but i do still hold quite an admiration for him for a number of reasons. That was rather good. I also like his dissection of "Saint" Mother Theresa.nekokate wrote:True. I think they are easy words to throw about but have lost much of their meaning through overuse. If you mean do I think the Bush Administration is greedy, corrupt and unconcerned with the loss of human life then yes, fascist? no because that refers to a specific ideology. I can't speak for Hitchens personally but i think he sees it as an enemies enemy is my friend situation. He regards Islamic Fundamentalism as a greater threat than the Bush Administration. Personally i disagree but It's unproductive to throw around such loaded terns as 'racist' or 'fascist' so lightly.Mandy wrote:Would you regard Bush as a racist or a fascist ?
If so, what would you call someone who supports a racist or a fascist ?

I note you didn't answer if you thought Bush was a racist ? (e.g. by believing Iraqi blood is cheaper than other blood, or he believes he has a right to rule over other "inferior" nations)
