Are you talking about the original films or the remake? The original ones scared the living crap out of me! I was much younger though in those days :D
yeah, the original - I watched the remake for all of about 20 minutes before turning it off in disgust. I must admit though, it's Beneath the Planet of The Apes that really made it for me though.

Yeah the remake of Plante of the Apes was a bit funny! I am surprised they didn't make any sequels as the ending was going that way!

Ok, I will admit that I may be a bit biased but I totally agree with this selection as best movie.

pfffftttttt
Ah...Dark Star. Loved that movie. The beach ball alien lacks something compared to todays special effects though, and you just can't beat a talking bomb.
BOMB #20

In the beginning there was darkness,
and the darkness was without form
and void.

INTERIOR - CONTROL ROOM

BOILER
What the hell?

PINBACK
Yoo hoo, bomb...

INTERIOR - BOMB BAY

BOMB #20
And in addition to the darkness
there was also me. And I moved upon
the face of the darkness.

INTERIOR - CONTROL ROOM

BOILER
Bomb, hey bomb.

PINBACK
Hey, bomb...

INTERIOR - BOMB BAY

BOMB #20
And I saw that I was alone.

Pause.

BOMB #20
(cont'd)
Let there be light.

----------------------------------------------------------

one of my favourite bits of cinema ...

I liked the last released of the 6 episodes of the Star Wars films (which is actually #3 in the sequence) : "III Revenge of the Sith released May 19, 2005" .

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars

The reason is that it told how an evil force can take over a democracy using the power of false flag operations and fear [yep.. a political message which many thing was directed at Bush & Co]

I'm glad you gave that link to the Wikipedia article on Star Wars - I would never have found that myself.

Many a true word spoken in jest. Though I included the URL so you know where I sourced the reference .. i.e. not that you couldn't find it, but so there is no uncertainty where I got the information (just in case it is incorrect).

You probably would have found "Wookieepedia" as well : https://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page

Maybe it is the younger generation, who didn't grow up in awe at Star Wars, who like Serenity (i.e. they don't know any better, and don't have the patience to comprehend a complex 6 episode series which had many morality tales)
