OWENSBORO, Kentucky (AP) -- A couple are charged with trying to sell a 15-month-old girl for $3,000 and a sport-utility vehicle.
Charles G. Hope Jr., 32, and Amber M. Revlett, 26, both of Owensboro, planned to use the money to pay off his fines for previous criminal charges, said Daviess County Sheriff's Lt. Bill Thompson. They were arrested Friday.
Thompson said it started out Wednesday as a joke between the couple and two women, but it became apparent that Hope and Revlett weren't kidding.
"This is one of those things that worked out, and, luckily, we were able to do this before they were able to sell the child to someone who may not have contacted law enforcement," Thompson said.
Hope told the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer that he wasn't trying to sell his girlfriend's little girl.
"I love her babies, I love my babies, and people don't have enough money to get any of my kids," he told the newspaper.
Hope said the two women he's accused of trying to sell the baby to were just trying to get the child for themselves.
"They said something to [Revlett] about giving us $500 for temporary custody to take her to New Mexico and I said, 'Well, give me $3,000 and your truck,"' Hope said. "The next thing I know, I'm sitting here accused of trying to sell my kid ... . I know they don't think I'm serious, they just want her."
Thompson said Revlett's three children were placed in the custody of child protective services. Selling a child for adoption is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

People like this have no morality whatsoever and are as cold hearted as you could get. After seeing about that wee boy this week kidnapped by that family of inbred sewer rats and raped and murdered, I wonder did he even bother to care about the background of the person or persons he was trying to sell the child to. I'm sure not if he could sell a human being like a piece of meat, and that human being of his own flesh and blood. It's so disturbing.Skylace wrote:There's a whole class of people out there that just make no sense to me at all.

Bugger, I wonder if I can get some new tires for my 9 year old, a new CD player for the 7 year old... not sure if I could trade the 5 year old until his 6th birthday...
Just kidding :duh:
I have seen couples like both these sets (the accused & the lezzerz) in real life... the real deal as both couples are being depicted here in this story.
It happens, but also (as I feel about this story) many things get taken out of context even when said in a joke or as bar talk.
If somebody I knew offered me something to take my kid to mexico under those condotions, I'd prob' reply with a joke like "Yeah & throw in your SUV, 2 pints of beer & a date with your mother..."
So, lets get to the bottom of this, two women (a couple) wanting temp custody of a child to take to mexico... why?
I can tell you why as something like this has popped up in the news a few times over the past few years.
All three travel to mexico together, one woman returns with the child & a set of papers to prove custody just in case they are asked.
Then the 2nd female crosses the border later that week with a child 'PURCHASED' in mexico with papers in hand (perhaps modified) saying the child is legit...
There are thousands of same sex couples in the USA being denied adoption due to being 'same sex' & this kind of thing is a direct result of it.
There are thousands of 'unwanted' kids in mexico, thats a crying shame right there, but worse than that, there are thousands of parents in mexico willing to sell their own children on the black market (as there is in many other places around the world) for what we would see as small sums of cash just to try & better their personal lives.
