Best Products to try

Ok guys! I need your suggestions.......... there is a "British and Irish Shoppe" re-opening in a new location near me tomorrow. I plan to go on Saturday as I've a discount coupon, but could really use your suggestions on what kinds of things to try. They mostly have teas, biscuits, crisps, candy, chocolate, ---- your basic snack foods. They also carry a certain amount of jams and cooking products.

In the past, I've tried Twirleys, Fry's Chocoalte bars, Jelly Babies and some sort of chocolate mint biscuits.

Also, what is the best or most popular kind of tea used in the UK? Tetley and Red Rose are big here, but I'd love to try a different brand.

I'm looking forward to trying some new things but would love your input. (I've a feeling this is going to cost me a ton of money :) )

Tea - PG tips. :teacup:
Biscuits/cakes - McVities JAFFA CAKES of course. :goofy:
Crisps/Chips - Tayto cheese and onion. :agree:
Chocolate - Galaxy. :thumbsup2:
Alcohol - Strongbow Cider :cheers1:

Cadbury's chock despite being available in Canada is so much better from the UK...
The Canadian stuff is made by the USA's Hershey at their Canadian plant & is utter shite in comparison.
So any real Cadbury product...

Also real MARS BARS :) OMG I'd kill for one right now.


Biscuit wise, again cadbury's choc covered bic's such as fingers or digestives...
Hob-Nobs
Ginger nuts (by McVitties) too.

Tea, I don't drink the stuff but hear that PG Tips is the dogs bollox.

Real Branston pickle (again, it's dif from the stuff made in canada) as are pickled Onions...

Got to have some Eccles cakes if they have any...

Treacle tarts too...

Ohh, the local place here does some nice 'other stuff' too...

Birds custard,
Cadburys drinking choc,
Heinz baked beans (ohh so dif from the US & Canadian)....
Tate & Lyles "Golden Syrup" :)
Tizer
Lucazade
Ribena

The shop here is a rip off tho' :(
It's a tourist trap & not intended for real UK peeps :(

When I go to DC I visit the embassy & stock up :)
Much nicer & a lot cheaper (Duty free too).

Hula Hoops - barbecue flavour are brilliant, and it's Monster Munch, not Crunch, Sky - but you're right, and the pickled onion flavour are great.

Apparently it was mine and Bat's great-great-great grandfather who invented Bird's Custard... what a claim eh!

Well! I've been to two British shops today and got a number of the things you've suggested.

Heinz baked beans..... will maybe try them tomorrow.

Galaxy Chocoalte...... yummy!!!! (I've been good and only had a couple of pieces... so far)

Cadburys chocolate covered tea biscuits....... went lovely with my tea!

Taytos Cheese and Onion Crisps..... good as well.

Branstons pickle... couldn't really tell what this was or what you ate it with, so I held off. Near as I can figure it's like our "relish" here and I don't really like that.

Cadbury's Drinking Chocolate..... yummy, but I thought it would be thicker than hot chocolate. Funny everything I've read about it says it's too sweet, but I didn't find it nearly as sweet as the type of stuff you get here.

Couldn't find the Hula Hoops or Monster Munch or the Fuse bar...... but I'll keep checking.

Couldn't get the PG tips tea, seems that Typhoo is the only one either shop carries.... can't believe that there is an instant tea with milk already in it available! Not sure how good it is, but in a pinch it might not be a bad alternative. They just don't have that kind of thing here :(

Thanks again for all of your suggestions.... it's been a "tasty" afternoon here :)

LOL! Well, I didn't eat them all at once.... they're in the cupboard..... but I will admit, we've made a good dent in the Cadburys biscuits!

Cadburys biscuits are always the first to go in this house...
Often before I even get a look in :(
When ever we have a visitor or care package from the UK the wife gets her 'Ginger Nuts' as per request but eats all my choc' bickies first.

We were discussing this thread today & the mother-in-law wants to know if Eff' can get Bewleys Breakfast Tea (in an orange tin), she swears it's the best tea ever & suggests you try it Eff...

Hmm.... I'll have to check --- I was really only looking for the PG Tips since it was recommended and noticed they had Typhoo and some Barry's tea (which comes highly recommended by Irishmafia!!) I'll check on the Bewley's though and maybe give it a try as well.

My goodness, with all this tea drinking, I'm going to be spending a lot of time in the loo!

branston is great with a cheese sarnie, or on top of a grilled cheese toast.

As for PG tips, cheapest place is probably on amazon.com they did have the 240 count boxes for $10 until x-mas, now the regular price of around $20 but that's still a lot cheaper than most places...there's smaller boxes too, but that's the best value for money :)
