Bomb alerts on UK Flights

Post by maycm »

I guess everyone has seen the news from the UK re explosives on planes.

From what I have seen the arrests are the results of long periods of surveillence by the Police. Well done to the boys in blue!

Incidentally, one of the first things I saw was a post on a footy forum I frequent, from a copper which read :
Months of planning has paid off. Got the b*stards. Watch the news.

I've just started to hear about all this when I put on the news this morning. I am glad they found it out. But now some of the restrictions they are putting on over here again are getting weird. No liquids, lotions, shampoo anything can come on in carry on.

I don't believe a word of it - it's bullshit designed to make people feel ok about losing more liberty.

I'm not really being cynical, I'm taking into account all the recent situations where apparent threats have turned out to be nothing. The most recent case only a couple of months back where that guy was shot in his house for example.

This is government bullshit and even if they jail anyone for it I'll only be reminded of the Birmingham Six and Guildford Four.

Funnily enough when the copper I mentioned above posted what he did, someone came back with

lets prepare for the barage of human rights protesters and that stupid cow from liberty!!

To which the reply was...

Not this time. They are banged to rights.

The reports I am now seeing are pretty much showing that this is being blown out of proportion.

I heard this driving home from work this afternoon! With all of these restrictions, I wouldn't be surprised if you were forced to fly nude and carry all your belongings in a see through plastic bag. Lotions and shampoo restrictions? My god, if you put them in your luggage, they'll only lose that and then you're really screwed!

I was starting to think the same thing. And they were talking about not being able to take on laptops and such. Please, I wouldn't check in my laptop as luggage on a plane for a ton of reasons.

This is just insane.

I just read this on the BBC page "Security chiefs said the group believed to be planning the attack had been under surveillance for some time."

If that's true then why did they have to stop and search everyone?

The implication is that they either didn't know the true extent of the "conspiracy" or they wanted to put people on edge.

It's Bush and Blair thinking of ways to validate their so called 'war on terror' to gain popularity and voter confidence, also so they can see hot chicks flying naked :P

Think of all the bad hair days if you had to travel without your hair gel or mousse? I'd have to protest on that alone

I just heard that a BA flight was turned back hours into a flight to New York because a mobile-phone started ringing. How it was picking up a signal is anyone's guess!
