The Libyan “pro-democracy rebels” are reportedly commanded by Colonel Khalifa Haftar who, according to a study by the US Jamestown Foundation, set up the Libyan National Army in 1988 “with strong backing from the Central Intelligence Agency”. For the past 20 years, Colonel Haftar has been living not far from Langley, Virginia, home of the CIA, which also provides him with a training camp.

I thought that the good folk of the CIA must have had a hand in it somehow. Makes the doctors words seem even more naive.

Indeed. I thought this was pretty clear from the start. The media reports regularly parroted the "no boots on the ground" line with the caveat of "support personnel" which (if you read between the lines) means CIA.

I wonder if there will be an Iran Contra scandal related to Libya. If there are CIA acting in Libya, presumably for a period of time preceding the original uprising, one must wonder if the US of A is providing them with arms and munitions. Or is that where friendly neighbourhood dictatorships like Saudi Arabia come in?
