Does anyone know of a FREE application I can use to capture a live webcast stream via Windows Media Player? And impromptu, if possible, not like an application you have to tell all sorts of stuff to, just one you run and hit "record".

the one I use is 'WM Recorder' which does exactly what you want - it's not free though... but I hear that if you click
this you can get it...
If you like it, you should buy it of course.

SDP Downloader? I use it to save most streaming windows media. Just enter the mms:// link and tell it to record.

Real Player might be able to achieve the same .. bypassing WMP & WM Recorder
It has a "record" box over the play box of most videos (or you might be able to enter the stream URL straight to REAL .. and just hit record)

for me it's all about the pause - if they do that then all's good.

I agree. Real starts a new file after every "stop" .. so doesn't have a pause.
One thing to add : I recently got a VISTA machine, and I could not get "source" of my recorder s/w to pick up the internal mixer. Only option was recording via the microphone .. which would have meant that every keystroke or expletive I make would have been on the capture.
That was where REAL came in .. it captures what IT DIRECTLY plays.
Unsure if this is a VISTA problem ...
