facebook account disabled

Last week my account on facebook was disabled without any warning or reason given. I wrote to them to ask and this was their response...
"At this time, we cannot verify the ownership of the account under this address. Please reply to this email with a scanned image of a government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver's license) in order to confirm your ownership of the account. Please black out any personal information that is not needed to verify your identity (e.g., social security number). Rest assured that we will permanently delete your ID from our servers once we have used it to verify the authenticity of your account."
So I've to provide a scanned copy of an official document to prove who I am... notwithstanding it's illegal to copy a passport or driving licence, who do they think they are to ask for something like that when it's a free website? I don't believe for a minute that they would 'delete' any information they get. Anyway, I replied that I don't have a driving licence or passport for environmental reasons. So let's see if that throws a 'divide by zero' error into the mix.
I looked about a bit and it seems that there's a lot of people who've had this happen to them. So, a big pair of hairy sweaty bollocks go to facebook for being anonymous cunts... would the person who banned me be prepared to give me their official details?

Sticking with the ban motif, I just got this message from Digital Spy...
"Please note that in line with paragraph 2.1 of the Terms and Conditions you agree to when using Digital Spy, remarks that are offensive are not permitted."
It was on a thread talking about the Daily Mail.
"If anyone's unsure of the demographic that the Daily Mail is aimed at, let me help - you should be a self-righteous, immigration-hating, aspirationally middle-class, female in her mid 20s and over, who has never had a decent orgasm and is most likely single because no man worth his salty bits would want to be in the company of such a harriden. I hope that helps.'"
---------------
This on a site that allows constant attacks on 'chavs' and any other group that doesn't sit with the mentality of Pringle-jersey-wearing middle-class twattery of a fair percentage of the users... The expression 'They don't like it up 'em' was never more apt!
Also, while I'm here - I got a warning for bad language in a torrent site's chat room the other day for saying 'arse'. They said they wanted to keep the chat as 'pg13' - my irony circuits almost went into overload as I noted that the most popular section on the site was for porn...

Has Facebook got back to you yet? It seems really strange that they have banned you because they don't know who you are. Surely they can't verify who anyone is.

they've not replied, no... and you're right about the verification thing. They do have a check of sorts by sending a validation code to your mobile, but to insist on anything more for every member would probably see their numbers drop by a massive amount.

Are you sure the Facebook one wasn't fraudulent? Seems odd for them to be asking for such ID.
As for forums and their double standards. There seems to be a lot of these that are quick to question anything that is derogatory to them, but are too ignorant and thick to stop other prejudices they allow to get spewed out...

It's genuine for sure - when the account was disabled there was a link to click if you thought it was incorrect and that was a reply to that.
I've done a check and it seems it's actually quite common for them to do it.

Faceless, you crack me up with your humor. It's similar to Basil Fawlty in some aspects.

haha well, I do like to get a bit of rhythm and depth to comments like that. I deliberately made it without 'swearing' though, so to be hauled up for being offensive was annoying!
Clearly the person who complained must have fitted quite a few of the qualifications... haha

the Pringle-jersey bit was from an old routine by Billy Connolly, though I added the twattery! haha
And cheers Aja - I reckon I'd need the mafia to defend against people who've put me and anyone else who attacks the political hooligans on a 'report this person' hitlist...

See, that's why I don't join, or post, anywhere but here. I don't understand Facebook asking for a photo to verify with all information redacted. While I won't sign up for Facebook because of their privacy policy, I've seen it and people put up pictures of their kids, dogs and who knows what else. I think it is an invasion of your privacy.

I'm on Facebook, but if they close my account tomorrow, they can kiss my ass before I'd jump hoops to get it opened again.

I kind of feel the same way antonia --- I like the community that we have here on the couch, the diversity of topics & personalities --- I think that's why so many of us have been around for so long
