Old story as I got it about 6-7 months before. anyway...
I've got this nifty little kit,
TeVii S650 [DVB S-S2] USB card. My BBC HD captures are brilliant *- no glitches what-so-ever. They regularly update their drivers for both 32 & 64 bit OS's (Win & Linux).
If you're thinking of getting one then get that one the
new S660 model.
* BBC HD has recently reduced it avg video bitrate from 15 mbps to 10 mbps. It used to be ~6.07 GB/hour, now varies between 4.25-4.55 GB /hour!
face: if you're planning to get a usb version, then please get a TeVii (S650 or S660).

sounds good, but we're not allowed a satellite dish here
The only way I can get HD is by paying extra to VirginMedia and I can't afford it really.
I'm not surprised they've cut the signal quality - but they're broadcasting in mp4, so that is still pretty high. Can you tell how much has been cut from audio and video streams individually?

mp4? afaik, they use transport stream (.ts). i'll ask my friend about whose capping for me.
They haven't made any change in audio, only video.

maybe the broadcast is different between cable and satellite - I was reading a spec thing about 1080 broadcasting recently and it definitely said the standard format was h264 mp4

ok, I must have got it wrong, but it really makes no odds. Btw, have you ever seen a dv-cable card available? That would be handy...

There are definitely some DVB-C cards available - the good ones I know are from technoTrend, Haupauge, probably TeVii.
ps: sorry for the late reply, face...forgot about it.

cool, it's been a few years since I last looked. I saw this one on ebay
CLICK, but I'll need to check further into all the options.
It would be great to be able to have the cable channels all at digital SD standard for a start.
Sounds brilliant

It supports DVB-S2, DVB-T, DVB-C, SATA (int.), eSATA (ext.) drives, etc etc etc! I'm going to get this if my current one goes south.
NOTE: not all SATA Drives are supported. More info

How much are they? I can't see any prices on the site, but I'm guessing it's not cheap... to be honest though, I'd rather not buy a standalone box as I've already got a computer that should do most of the work. That one on ebay is £55

I agree with you face. the only thing missing is the direct use with the computer. I hope they'll do it soon, because there is a big market for such devices...price varies quite a lot...haven't seen it below ~ E400!
