Well that's something that's often said in situations like that. Some people will also insist that they've previously been nowhere near you when they tell you to look in your back pocket for your chosen card. It's a necessary deceit to make the effect work.

The magician was nowhere near you so it must be magic that put the six of hearts in your jeans, and the psychic didn't know who you were until she met you, so your dead father must really be talking to her.

yeah I realise that, but it would need to be a pretty elaborate scam involving the producers if that's the case. Finding out where she was brought up, the pets she had, the family tree etc. It wouldn't be that hard, but it wouldn't be cheap either.
