ok, are you using the quick log-in option at the bottom of the front page? It could be to do with that.

I've tried both and it happens both ways.

ok, I've been looking around on support sites and it seems this is a fairly common error and not one which there is a definitive answer for. But I've tried one thing with the cookies and I'm hoping that might be it.

well that didn't work - back to the drawing board..
